South Florida restaurants really do have patio power.

The online site for making restaurant reservations put out a list of the “100 Most Popular Restaurants for Outdoor Dining in America” for 2023. Two of the places on the list are in Fort Lauderdale and one is in Miami.

But OpenTable.com guests have only rated three of our restaurants.

THE WINNERS: Louie Bossi’s Ristorante Bar Pizzeria in Fort Lauderdale, a well-known classic Italian restaurant with a kitchen where everything is made from scratch snagged a spot on the list. Co-owner Todd Herbst says, “Florida has a lot of great restaurants with outdoor dining, but what we’ve done with the Piazza at Louie Bossi’s is just very, very special. We got lucky that we were able to find a place with enough outdoor space to make this Italian piazza masterpiece.”

Takato is a Japanese and Korean fusion restaurant in Fort Lauderdale Beach. It is part of the Conrad Hotel. At Takato, there is room for 60 people inside and 100 people outside, where there are tables and chairs spread out on two waterfront decks. The general manager, Paul-Antoine Fabre, says that Takato is the best place to eat outside. We’ve worked hard to make sure that, in addition to the beautiful view, the atmosphere is trendy and warm, the music is upbeat and fun, the service is excellent, and the food and drinks are wonderful. Every detail has been thought out, and we’re proud to have made a special outdoor atmosphere that’s only made better by our view.”

Doya in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood is billed as a modern Aegean restaurant that brings together the food, culture, and experiences of Greece and Turkey. Erhan Kostepen, Doya’s chief chef and partner, grew up in that area, which is reflected in the restaurant’s design, which includes “an expansive covered patio decorated with lush greenery,” as the restaurant’s website says.

WHAT DID THEY DO?

OpenTable says it looked at more than 13 million reviews from diners on its site and found patterns. If you don’t just look at South Florida, the state came in second with 17 restaurants on the list, behind California, which had 31.
