President Biden denounced the six-week abortion ban in Florida on Tuesday, blaming former President Trump for the law’s impending implementation.

During a short campaign stop in Tampa, Biden attacked the presumed Republican nominee for selecting the justices who eventually struck down Roe v. Wade, which ended the right to an abortion under the constitution.

“Next week, one of the nation’s most extreme anti-abortion laws takes effect here in Florida. It’s criminalizing reproductive health care for before women even know whether they’re pregnant,” Biden said. “Let’s be real clear. There’s one person responsible for this nightmare. And he’s acknowledged and he brags about it. Donald Trump.”

One of the main concerns of Biden’s campaign is abortion rights, and it seeks to remind people of Trump’s position on the matter almost daily.

Vice President Harris and other senior administration officials have been traveling the nation, pressuring Republicans and Trump on abortion restrictions, while Biden’s team is releasing advertisements with testimonies from women who have been negatively impacted by state bans on abortion.

The majority of voters, according to polls, are against banning abortion, and Republicans have lost several elections because of their stance on the issue.

Although Florida has been voting more Republican in previous elections, the Biden campaign used Tuesday’s address as pressure to overturn the state’s abortion ban decision, which was upheld by the state Supreme Court.

Earlier this month, the court upheld a 15-week abortion ban, ruling that there is no right to an abortion in the state. This judgment automatically triggered a six-week ban, which would go into force 30 days later.

The campaign has also drawn attention to a ballot initiative that will be on the November ballot in Florida that would ensure access to abortion up to the moment of viability, or roughly 24 weeks. The six-week prohibition would be lifted if the measure is approved.

Trump has attacked the six-week ban in Florida and the almost complete prohibition in Arizona. However, he said that it is appropriate for the governments to make choices regarding the legality of abortion.

During his speech, Biden criticized Trump’s support from Christian voters and made fun of him for selling $60 Bibles.

“[Trump] described the Dobbs decision as a miracle. Maybe it’s coming from that Bible he’s trying to sell,” Biden said.

“Folks, it was no miracle. It was a political deal … he made with the evangelical base of the Republican Party to look past his moral and character flaws in exchange for his commitment to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe,” Biden added.

Trump said he doesn’t support a federal abortion ban, but Biden said Trump can’t be trusted.

“Don’t think he’s [not] making a deal right now with MAGA extremists to ban nationwide abortion in every single state, because he’s making it,” Biden said.
