Surfers gathered in Cocoa Beach, Florida, Kelly Slater’s hometown, early on Christmas Eve morning for the annual Surfing Santas celebration.

Roughly ten thousand festively inclined individuals turned up.

They paddled out, surfed, and drank bloody marys in celebration of musician Jimmy Buffet, whose birthday is Christmas.

Yesterday, NPI Productions shared the video above with the following caption:

NPI Productions posted a clip and captioned it:

“Merry Christmas from @surfingsantas of Cocoa Beach!!! Another epic year with about 10,000 of our favorite Santas #SurfingSantas #cocoabeach #Christmas #surfing

A video of the event featuring the packed beach, amusing costumes, and an extremely long lineup can be seen in the post.

On their website, Surfing Santas states that the event started in 2009 but didn’t take off until 2013.

Since then, it’s “grown to become an annual event that raises tens of thousands of dollars for local charities and draws surfing and Christmas enthusiasts from all over the planet.”

The press release read:

“Surfing Santas has raised more than $300,000 for charity, through donations and sales of official Surfing Santas T-shirts and raffles.

“All proceeds benefit the work of local organizations: Grind for Life an organization that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their families when traveling long distances to doctors and hospitals, the 24-year-old Florida Surf Museum which is helping to preserve Florida’s unique surfing history, and several local school sports teams.”

In September of 2023, Buffett passed away, shocking the surf community. Pro surfers that honored the “Margaritaville” singer included Kelly Slater, Nic von Rupp, Nathan Florence, and Koa Rothman.
