After taking part in a town hall in Miami-Dade County, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who is vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, sat down for a one-on-one interview with Glenna Milberg on Friday.

Christie, 60, who supported former President Donald Trump in 2016, claimed that former President Barack Obama’s policies had failed. If elected, Christie said he would not support Cuba’s cooperation with Russia because he believes “in a free and a liberated Cuba.”

The front-runner, Donald Trump, has stated he will not be attending the first Republican National Committee presidential primary candidates’ debate on Wednesday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but Christie said he was excited to participate.

A recent statement from a super PAC backing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was blasted by Christie as being senseless. The memo discussed DeSantis’ talking ideas for the debate, which included defending Trump on stage despite the fact that he is accused of crimes in four indictments.

“I think that is kind of silly to be running against Donald Trump and your strategy is to defend him in his absence,” Christie said. “It sounds to me like you are more interested in being his vice president or being in his cabinet.”

Christie criticized DeSantis’ immigration plan to move migrants from the border with Mexico to safe havens as being unfair.

“I don’t think we should treat people as political pawns,” Christie said.
