Jeep’s fondness for the outdoors is obvious in its designs, specifically with the Gladiator and Wrangler models. While some critics believe that Jeep doesn’t step out of its comfort zone or take risks with its designs, the all-new Jeep Gladiator begs to differ. Not only does it incorporate all of its typical off-roading craftsmanship in the design, but it also borrows from the popular Ram 1500 TRX model.
Built with the purpose of being a desert runner, the Gladiator Mojave takes things a step further with a Desert Rated badge designation – the first-ever in Jeep history. The Mojave was designed to tackle dust, dunes, and any obstacles it faces; all at extremely high speeds. Here are the four things we love about the Jeep Gladiator Mojave!
Purpose
Although the Gladiator Mojave follows a similar path as Jeep’s Trailhawk and Rubicon trims, this pickup is singled out because of its Mojave-specific features. Buyers will find 2.5-inch Fox shocks, orange aesthetic accents, and a boatload of mechanical changes that make the Mojave trim much better suited for desert terrain. Jeep enthusiasts will love the Mojave as it is an overdue complement to its off-road selection. The 2.5-inch shocks, along with the Gladiator’s extended wheelbase make for one of Jeep’s strongest vehicles. In addition, the standard 22-inch tires do most of the work when it comes to absorbing any bumps on the road.
Interior
On the inside, the Gladiator Mojave features dynamic front seats fully complete with integrated upper bolsters that hold riders in place. Cloth upholstery or leather are available in both seats. Both materials feature embroidered Mojave logos and orange accent stitching. There are two different interior color options – Steel Gray and Black, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel features a hardline design with a rim section for extra grip.
Exterior
The Mojave has a one-inch suspension lift, giving it a tougher and more prominent look. On the heavy-duty performance hood of the Mojave, there is a distinctive decal, as well as unique exterior badges, orange tow hooks, and a center scoop. The 2020 Gladiator Mojave rides on 17 x 7.5-inch wheels and features Jeep Performance Parts step sand slider rails between its wheels. For a clearer view when driving, customers can upgrade to the forward-facing off-road camera.
Efficiency
When going against its toughest competitor, the Ford Raptor, the Jeep Gladiator Mojave saves drivers an average of $500 annually according to the EPA’s calculations and ratings. The Gladiator Mojave is powered by a standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, producing 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Customers can enjoy an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 17 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and a combined 19 mpg. In comparison, the Ford Raptor comes with an exorbitant twin-turbocharged engine that doesn’t have its sights set on traversing terrain, but on dune-running instead.
