Tyreek Hill, a receiver for the Miami Dolphins, only needed eight games this season to surpass 1,000 receiving yards, and he helped his team win on Sunday with yet another outstanding effort.

The Dolphins defeated the New England Patriots, their rivals in the AFC East. 31-17, partly because of Hill’s 112-yard showing on eight catches, which featured his eighth touchdown of the year in receiving.

Hill now has 1,014 receiving yards after entering the game with a league-high 902 receiving yards. In just eight games, he became the fourth player in NFL history—the first being during the Super Bowl era—to surpass 1,000 yards.

Tyreek Hill assisted Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in repaying New England for his interception that resulted in a touchdown for the Patriots in the first quarter. Hill was running between two defenders when Tagovailoa noticed him on a play-action pass, and he scored a 42-yard touchdown by putting the ball right in the breadbasket.

That was just what the Dolphins’ offense needed to get back on track. The ensuing drive was spearheaded by Tagovailoa, who ran 14 plays, ending with a one-yard pass to Cedric Wilson Jr. to make the score 14–7.

After the Patriots gained possession of the ball, the Dolphins defense chose to intervene as well. It was CB Jalen Ramsey, who was making his Dolphins debut following surgery for a torn meniscus sustained during training camp, who intercepted Patriots quarterback Mac Jones. With his pick resulting in a field goal by Jason Sanders, the Dolphins led 17–7 at the half.

However, Miami’s output increased significantly in the second half, with the game’s top receiver accounting for a large portion of it. It wasn’t Hill, though.

As opposed to him, Jaylen Waddle led the team in receiving yards with 121 yards on seven receptions, including a 31-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter when he was uncovered in the middle of the field, making the score 31-17.

Tagovailoa completed with a 324 yard completion of 30 of 45 passes, three touchdowns, and one interception. With 46 yards on 13 carries, Raheem Moster didn’t have the best day in the passing game, but he did add to his season score total with a one-yard rush in the second half.

Regarding the Patriots, Jones was brought back to earth after ascending to victory in a game against the Buffalo Bills the week before. He completed 19 of 29 passes for 161 yards, two touchdowns, and Ramsey’s interception.

The Patriots couldn’t find the end zone until the fourth quarter, when Jones found Juju Smith-Schuster out in the flat to cut the Dolphins’ lead to one touchdown, 24-17. Jones had earlier found Kendrick Bourne for a 24-yard touchdown that had opened the scoring in this game.

After losing to the Philadelphia Eagles a week earlier, the Dolphins ultimately turned things around and improved to 6-2 on the season. After ending a four-game losing streak at home last week, the Patriots are currently 2-6 and unable to mount a winning run.
