A small sense of pre-pandemic outings is making a return to one of South Florida’s busiest beaches.
After being sidelined in 2020 due to health protocols and the roaring surge in COVID-19 cases, the popular Hyundai Air & Sea Show will be making its return to Miami Beach for Memorial Day Weekend.
As more Floridians are joining the vaccinated populace, locals are itching to get out and enjoy big weekend festivities across the state without the worry of getting the virus or a serious version of it. The tradition to salute the heroes of our nation is hailed as the “greatest show above the earth” and is famously known for attracting thousands of residents to the sandy beaches for the weekend-long spectacle.
Across the state, vaccines are readily available for adults age 40 and over and will soon follow with a bump down to every Florida adult 18 and over. Like any other public event during the pandemic, this will require masks in certain areas of the beach.
According to the official website for the event, patrons will be required to wear a mask in the “Display Village” and “Show Site” but will be allowed to take them off when seated in designated food and drink areas or seated in the open beach area on the sand. Gatherings larger than 10 people will not be permitted in any area at any time.
The Air & Sea Show is an engaging experience that exhibits the advanced technology that men and women from all five United States Military branches as well as local police, firefighters, and first responders use out in the field. This year, attendees will be able to witness high-powered fly-bys, extreme water sports, and powerboat demonstrations along the sandy South Florida shoreline.
As of now, there is no curfew in effect for South Beach during the May 29-30 weekend, but residents are encouraged to monitor local advisories regarding the usual spike in travel on that weekend. Expect the city to adjust local time restrictions for patrons in the South Beach area depending on how rowdy or crowded the shoreline gets.
