It’s incredible to witness one automaker create such a versatile lineup, and Volkswagen’s unique ingenuity stems from the Beetle. Over the past couple of years, the German automaker entered the sports car segment with vehicles such as the SP2 (exclusive to Brazil). Fast forward to 2022, and Volkswagen has a vehicle suited for any kind of car lover. Especially now, the German automaker does all it can without neglecting the enthusiasts who want a gasoline-powered vehicle.
With its GTI variants, Volkswagen has dominated the hot hatch segment for years. Nevertheless, the GTI seemed to be a precursor to the thirst for speed, paving the way for the Golf R, the most potent hot hatch to date. Here are a few justifications for why speed lovers need the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf R.
Engine
When you lift the Volkswagen Golf R’s hood, a turbocharged, intercooled 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will be found inside. The engine also produces 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, which is 30 more horsepower than the model it replaces. The Golf R’s optional 1,900 rpm ensures that there is never a dull moment. But how do those RPMs translate into actual acceleration?
Acceleration
The introduction of the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system by the German automaker left many people in awe. The extensive system also offers some of the most alluring launches, with acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds.
All-Wheel Drive System with 4MOTION
As we return to the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, we should mention a neat function dubbed R-Performance Torque Vectoring. Depending on what the enthusiast wants from their hot hatch, R-Performance Torque Vectoring translates to unique quantities of power being driven to each particular wheel.
The Legacy of Golf R
This association with the Golf R and its supporters goes as far back as the middle of the 1970s. It is therefore hard for German engineers to develop a new replacement half-heartedly because the hot hatch has a sizable fan base. The 3.2-liter V6 engine in the R32, the first Golf R, produced an unholy 238 horsepower.
