The Chevy Camaro seems to be reaching its end. As automakers compete for the top spot, the transition toward electric vehicles has become incredibly common. General Motors (GM) recently announced its plan to transition to electric vehicles by 2035. Aside from feasibility, many question the future of vehicles like the Chevy Camaro.
As General Motors plans to produce electric vehicles, we wonder if gas and diesel vehicles will become a thing of the past. Currently, the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro lacks a replacement. Hypothetically, General Motors could mount the Camaro on the rear-drive-based A2XX architecture used to underpin the Cadillac CT4 and CT5, but GM has made no mention of doing so. With that being said, it seems the Chevy Camaro will reach its end by 2024.
On a better note, the Camaro name may stick around despite the ending of the high-performance muscle car. With the news of General Motors’ move toward electrification, it is rumored that the Camaro name may be used for a performance-oriented electric sedan. Changing the iconic two-door into a four-door may seem crazy, but given the current nature of the automotive industry, anything is possible.
An All-Electric Sedan May be on its Way
GM has stated its plans for an all-electric sedan, yet it is still up for debate whether or not it will replace the Chevy Camaro. Many wonder if it can compete in the electric-vehicle sector. The all-electric sedan successor is expected to utilize General Motors’ Ultium battery technology. This will give the sedan a great range and sophisticated charging capabilities. As for performance, inspiration can look toward vehicles like the GMC Hummer EV, which is expected to come with 1,000 horsepower and be Porsche-quick to 60 mph.
The next-generation of high-performance vehicles by Chevy stands to deliver. We can’t forget to mention that the Chevrolet 2023 Corvette Z06’s unveiling date is now scheduled for the fall of 2021. We’re wondering what the sportscar will be equipped with and whether or not it will join the EV movement. Depending on performance and specs, a new-generation Camaro could make an appearance in the near future.
