The automotive industry is constantly changing, and along with it, so is the automotive market. About a decade ago, vehicles that utilized alternative fuel types were considered luxury items. They weren’t very popular and were thought of as a trend. Gasoline internal combustion engines would remain on top forever, correct? Well, to everyone’s surprise, fossil fuels would only be around for so long, and with the amount of research supporting their damage to the environment, the decision to find greener alternatives increases exponentially throughout each generation. Now in the 21st century, electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are the new normal. Consumers might need a little extra push when it comes to figuring out which alternative fuel vehicle is right for them, and the Green Car Journal acts as the perfect guide with its 2023 Green Car Awards, recently naming the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV as the “2023 Family Green Car of the Year.”

“We spent a lot of time and over 20,000 miles behind the wheel of the previous generation Outlander PHEV, which allowed us to really appreciate its capabilities…We’re extremely impressed with the sophisticated style and engineering of the new generation 2023 Outlander PHEV, and especially appreciate its significantly greater all-electric and overall driving range. It is a deserving winner of the magazine’s 2023 Family Green Car of the Year™ award.” – Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com

The monthly magazine, Green Car Journal, focuses on environmentally friendly energy, technologies, and cars, mostly in the automotive sector. Automakers are commended for their efforts and successes in creating a huge number of PHEVs, EVs, and BEVS, which make up the eco-friendly automobile market. With assessments of PHEVs, EVs, and BEVs, as well as the Green Car Journal 2023 Green Car Awards, a journal like Green Car Journal can help readers cut through all the marketing hype and opinion articles to discover the real facts about the car industry.

Green Car Journal has already honored the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The plug-in hybrid SUV has won the title of Family Green Car of the Year from Green Car Journal three times in the previous five years, most recently this year (2022). The Outlander PHEV won two prizes in 2019: the inaugural 2020 Family Green Car of the Year and the 2020 Green Car Product of Excellence. With 2023 being its greatest year yet, the 2023 Outlander PHEV won awards for 2022 for its combination of environmental performance and family-friendly versatility.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been upgraded with a new modified powertrain made up of a 2.4-liter inline-four cylinder engine, a 60 kW motor in the front, and a 70 kW motor in the rear to generate a combined 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. It has a starting price of $39,845 (plus destination fee). The all-electric range (AER) has been increased to 38 miles with a new, bigger battery pack. The total range has increased to 420 miles thanks to a larger fuel tank that has added 0.2 more gallons. Customers who want more options can choose the new Tech package, which includes a Bose Premium nine-speaker audio system, a new power panoramic sunroof, heated front, and rear seats, and leather upholstery.

You can go green and find a new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV at University Mitsubishi any day.
