A cold front moving through the Southeast will bring temperatures down throughout the weekend, making it feel more like winter after a mild start to the month.
Temperatures more typical of January will return on Friday after the South and Midwest enjoyed warmer temperatures on Thursday that contributed to a catastrophic tornado outbreak.
By Saturday, temperatures will be lower throughout the whole eastern part of the United States, including Florida, thanks to the cold front that is still moving south on Friday. Since Christmas, the Sunshine State hasn’t seen temperatures like this, which led to freeze warnings in several areas and put iguanas in South Florida into a cold-stunned coma.
Before dropping significantly on Saturday, strong winds of up to 30 mph will maintain high temperatures in North Florida in the 50s and 60s.
The actual temperature in Jacksonville, Florida, will be in the 30s or maybe the upper 20s on Sunday morning, with wind chills in the 20s on Saturday morning.
On Friday, the Wind Chill advisories that are in effect through Saturday morning are being overlapped by showers and sporadic thunderstorms that FOX Forecast Center is tracking across east-central Florida.
Through the weekend, Orlando and inland Central Florida will experience wind chills in the 30s and 40s. In Daytona Beach, Florida, the wind chill prediction for Saturday morning is as low as 28 degrees.
Even in Miami, which is further south, daily highs in South Florida will struggle to reach 60 degrees. Miami may experience morning temperatures in the lower 40s by Sunday.
The “dropping iguana forecast” has yet to be released by the Miami National Weather Service. The prediction predicts that temperatures will remain in the 40s and 50s for an extended period of time, especially in inland South Florida.
Winter in Florida will only last a short while, though, as milder weather will start to arrive on Monday.
