Much of Florida and the southeastern United States will experience some of the coldest temperatures of the season along with rain due to a new winter storm.
The storm in the eastern United States is expected to be triggered early next week by the same weather pattern that is causing high winds and wildfires to spread in California, according to AccuWeather.
According to AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno, “the storm’s track will be determined in part by how quickly it strengthens.” “And consequently, where it tracks will determine where the band of accumulating snow versus rain sets up.”
A comparable area of the nation that got a few inches of snow during Winter Storm Cora is probably going to get more. Instead of the wintry combination of snow and ice that is expected elsewhere, rain will fall throughout the majority of the southeastern states, ranging from North Carolina to Louisiana.
However, these early forecasts are not final. The power of the storm will eventually determine its course.
Will Florida get snow from the winter storm?
According to The Weather Channel, Florida is the only state in the nation without snow. However, it is unlikely that the most recent winter storm will alter that fact.
The Florida Panhandle is predicted to see rain beginning on Friday and continuing through Sunday, but this is not in line with the cold temperatures that will arrive there on Monday.
According to AccuWeather, the southeast may anticipate thunder and lightning along with rain that is intense enough to trigger localized urban flooding.
How cold is the winter storm going to be in Florida?
The storm won’t coincide with Florida’s cooler temperatures because it will take some time for the arctic air to get this far south. As of right now, the storm is predicted to move through Saturday and Monday. On Sunday evening, Florida’s temperatures will start to decline.
According to AccuWeather, the coldest temperatures are predicted to occur in the Florida Panhandle. It is predicted that Monday will have a high of 44 degrees and a low of 22, which is more than 35 degrees above the daily average of 57.9. At least Wednesday will see the continuation of those cooler temps.
Temperatures will be a little milder in North Florida. On Monday, the high temperature in Tallahassee will be 47 degrees with a low of 25, and the low temperature in Jacksonville will be 34 degrees with a high of 47 degrees.
Beginning on Tuesday, South Florida will have temperatures in the mid-60s, while Central Florida will experience temperatures in the mid-50s.
Our knowledge of the winter storm path
Which direction the winter storm will go is still a little too early to tell with certainty, but it will become clearer as it moves forward.
With less cold air to deal with, a weaker storm is more likely to follow a more southern path. In that scenario, there will probably be very little snowfall, but some snow may spread farther into the interior Southeast as a result,” Rayno said.
“A stronger storm is more likely to track farther to the north, pull more moisture into the cold air and result in significant snow somewhere from the Midwest to the interior Northeast.”
Sporadic light snow or flurries could be seen in parts of the southern Appalachians, the Carolinas, and the Virginia Piedmont regions if the storm turns out to be weaker than expected and moves south.
