Sen. Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida, backed former President Trump on Sunday, rejecting Ron DeSantis, the governor of his state, in the 2024 presidential contest.

“When Trump was in WH I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on the regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us,” Rubio wrote on X.

“I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created,” he added. “It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!”

After losing the Florida primary, Rubio withdrew from the run against Trump in the 2016 presidential election. Sen. Rick Scott of Florida backed Trump in November of last year, which caused both state senators to prefer him over DeSantis.

Trump frequently called Rubio “Little Marco” during the bitter 2016 campaign, while Rubio called Trump a “con artist” and predicted “chaos” in his government.

Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota, who also withdrew from the 2024 contest, endorsed the former president just hours before Rubio committed his support to the former president.

With Rubio’s support, Trump continues to lead polls consistently. Along with Sens. JD Vance of Ohio, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Rick Scott of Florida, Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt of Missouri, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and others, he becomes one of almost two dozen Republican senators who support Trump.

On Monday night, voters in Iowa’s caucuses will select the Republican nominee for president.
