A new survey indicates that Republican Donald Trump may lose Florida in November. According to a survey by USA Today, Suffolk University, and WSVN-TV that was conducted between August 7 and August 11, Trump would not have an easy time winning Florida. In the poll, the former president leads Vice President Kamala Harris by just 5 points, with 47 percent to 42 percent. His lead at this point is both inside the survey’s plus or minus 4.4 percent margin of error and is less than any poll has indicated since July 10. Newsweek sent an email requesting feedback from the Trump campaign.
Previously seen as a swing state, Florida has shifted more and more to the Republican side in recent years, voting for Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. In 2022, Republican Governor Ron DeSantis won a landslide victory over Democrat Charlie Crist, winning 62 out of 67 counties. According to the most recent poll, there may be a decline in Republican support in the state. The Suffolk University Political Research Center’s director, David Paleologos, told USA Today that he was “surprised” to see Harris “striking distance” from Trump. “What was an easy drive through the Sunshine State is drive with caution,” he stated, adding that Harris is “still the underdog, but she’s a little bit closer than people might expect.”
As per FiveThirtyEight, prior polls taken on July 15 indicated that Trump’s lead in the state was between 6 and 10 points.
Since Biden declared last month that he was terminating his reelection campaign, Harris has taken up Trump’s lead nationally.
Election analyst Race to the WH reports that throughout the past 45 days, Harris’s lead in the polls has increased by 7.3 points, putting her 1.8 points ahead of Trump. Forty-five days ago, the Republican nominee had a 5.5-point advantage.
Harris has increased his advantage in Florida by 9.6 points, reducing Trump’s wide lead in the state.
Race to the White House, however, continues to indicate that Harris is still eight points behind Trump in Florida—41.4% to 49.4%—despite her increasing support.
According to a USA Today/Suffolk University/WSVN-TV survey, 50% of Floridians support Trump, whilst 44% favor Harris and 39% favor Biden. This indicates that Trump has a greater favorability rating than both of them.
Additionally, the survey revealed that more respondents were satisfied with Trump’s performance as president than with Harris’s vice presidential record. Approximately 55 percent of respondents expressed approval or strong approval of Trump’s presidential record, whereas only 39 percent expressed the same sentiment toward Harris’ vice presidential tenure.
The poll aggregator at FiveThirtyEight shows Harris leading Trump by 2.4 points on a national level.
