Driving in Poinciana is difficult, especially along Poinciana Boulevard, as everyone who lives there knows. Drivers lose time and experience stress due to the heavy traffic that occurs almost all day long.
Before relocating to Championsgate in late 2024, Emmy Torres, a longtime Poinciana resident, admitted, “I’ve been stuck in traffic for about three hours once.” “For me, traffic was a big issue.”
Although Torres no longer has to deal with the traffic on a daily basis, she still needs to go to Poinciana because her family still resides there, and it takes her roughly forty minutes to travel the few miles from her house to her father’s house.
As she reached her father’s house, Torres explained, “This is because we took the connector; if we hadn’t, we would have been there for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.”
At any time of day, traffic on Poinciana Boulevard and its intersections, including Pleasant Hill Road, can be difficult to navigate; some drivers claim to be stopped here for hours on end each week.
According to a recent survey by Finance Buzz, commutes in Poinciana are the worst in the nation, requiring an average of 51 minutes each way to get to work or school, or more than eight hours each week.
On the plus side, Osceola County reports that Poinciana Boulevard is already being widened and should be completed by the end of next year.
The Florida Department of Transportation also stated in April that construction on their project, the Poinciana Connector, should begin later this year. One congestion relief lane will be added by FDot in each direction leading to I-4. By the second part of 2026, the project should be finished.
According to Finance Buzz, the worst commutes in the nation are:
- The average commute in Poinciana, Florida, is the longest in the US, taking 51 minutes on average. This is probably a result of employees commuting to Orlando, which is roughly an hour away.
- Brentwood, California: This city has the longest commute in California, taking an average of 46.4 minutes one way.
- East Orange, New Jersey: It has the longest commute in New Jersey, taking an average of 41.7 minutes one way.
- The average commute time in the Temescal Valley, California, is 47.7 minutes, and 55.2% of commuters take 45 minutes or more each way.
- Antioch, California – The average commuter in Antioch takes 46.4 minutes one trip, and 49.7% of them take at least 45 minutes each way.
