A few additional specialty plates were added to Florida’s repertoire back in October by a new statute.
However, certain plates have had to be discontinued even as so many new ones are being made accessible to drivers in Florida.
Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) declared a few weeks after the law’s implementation that it was deauthorizing 15 more specialty license plate pre-sale vouchers that didn’t reach their quotas. They are as follows:
- Beat Childhood Cancer
- Dan Marino Campus
- Jumbo Shrimp
- Florida 4-H
- Daughters of the American
- Thank a Lineman
- Donate Life Florida
- Revolution
- Give Kids the World
- Rotary
- American Eagles
- Marine Corps League
- Highwaymen
- Guardian Ad Litem
- Florida Native
The Florida State Beekeepers Association was given a one-year extension to fulfill the standards, nevertheless.
According to the FLHSMV, five additional specialty license plates were revoked last month after failing to surpass 3,000 plate registrations for more than a year. Included in those five plates are the following:
- A State of Vision
- Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches
- Keep Kids Drug Free
- Scouting Teaches Values — Boys Scouts
- Special Olympics
With only 1,558 active registrations as of the beginning of 2024, another plate for the University of North Florida was terminated back in February for the same reason.
For the remainder of the plate’s ten-year replacement cycle, a car owner who has previously been awarded one of these retired plates is permitted to continue using it. Furthermore, the yearly specialty plate fee that the FLHSMV normally pays to the appropriate organization for each plate will no longer be assessed to the driver.
