Because of its inexperience, the Volkswagen ID.3 had several difficulties when it first debuted. The new little EV had a new look and undeveloped infotainment system. But later improvements significantly raised the car’s performance. Volkswagen is currently introducing a new infotainment system, more power, and an improved preconditioning function to accelerate charging.
The redesigned 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with improved software is the most notable feature. Volkswagen promises a “new, intuitive menu structure,” ChatGPT integration, and a revised layout that moves the climate controls to a bottom bar of the screen. Touch-sensitive sliders for controlling the volume and temperature remain below the screen, but this tweak promises to expedite climate settings.
Volkswagen has stated that it will not be adding physical buttons to its cars; instead, the steering wheel will continue to have its current functionality, possibly with modifications in the future. An additional 170 kilowatts of power, or 227 horsepower or 230 PS, are added to the ID.3 Pro S model, meaning it can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 7.1 seconds. Volkswagen claims an improved range of up to 347 miles WLTP, up from 338 miles in the model before the update, even though it still uses the same 77 kWh battery pack.
Improved performance whilst charging is also highlighted. Thanks to new charging and thermal management technologies that prepare the battery before DC charging ceases, the ID.3 Pro S now charges faster. The thermal regulator shortens the charging time and is especially useful in cold climates.
Additional elements of the updated infotainment system include adaptive cruise control-enabled assisted lane changes and a Car2X traffic danger function that provides early alerts of possible road hazards. Up to 50 meters can now be covered by the updated Park Assist Plus, and a new safety function stops doors from opening in the event that there is a risk of a collision with oncoming traffic. Additionally, there are now additional settings available for the optional 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and a newly integrated wellness app modifies car settings using three user-customizable modes.
These improvements are now exclusive to the ID.3 Pro S in Europe, but they might soon be extended to the whole model range. Senior Volkswagen official Imelda Labbé emphasizes that these improvements are in line with consumer requests and drivers’ favorable feedback regarding other ID.models.
