The new environmental point person for Governor Ron DeSantis is a Tallahassee native and well-known figure in Florida politics.

Alexis Lambert will lead the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, according to a statement released by the governor’s office.

Mercer University alumna Lambert will take over from the Division of Bond Finance, where she has served as Chief of Staff since 2018. During the DeSantis administration, Lambert has been a significant supporter of the state’s debt reduction strategy, which has reduced the state’s debt by more than 25 percent.

Lambert’s extensive resume includes notable roles at the Departments of Children and Families, Business and Professional Regulation, and Community Affairs, as well as roles as Chief of Staff at the Department of Health and Director of Communications for Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater.

Lambert, a resident of Tallahassee, is also a member of the State Emergency Response Commission and Space Florida boards.

Shawn Hamilton, who is leaving and returning to the private sector, will be replaced by Lambert, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
