According to a press statement, Tijuana Flats, a restaurant chain with locations in Central Florida, has declared the bankruptcy of 11 of its locations.

With the goal of “revitalizing its restaurants and reinvigorating the customer experience,” the Tex-Mex brand has welcomed new ownership.

As of last week, the company had closed 11 locations and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in addition to the new ownership under Flatheads LLC.

Joe Christina, the brand’s CEO, who arrived in November 2022, will continue in that role.

According to the announcement, the decision was made after a strategic evaluation by the company’s leadership began in November 2023.

Which of the company’s eleven restaurants would close has not yet been disclosed.

Brian Wheeler, the company’s founder, set up shop in Winter Park for Tijuana Flats in 1995. The business now operates 123 restaurants across four states.
