At a GOP dinner on Saturday night in Palm Beach, Florida, the campaign team of the former president claims to have raised over $50 million, shattering previous records for a Republican or Democratic candidate.
Campaign spokesman Danielle Alvarez claimed, “It took three Democratic presidents to raise $25 million and one president to raise over $50 million, Donald J. Trump.”
Powerful Players
The fundraiser on Saturday was held at a Palm Beach private residence that was sponsored by John Paulson, the pioneer of hedge funds and a billionaire. Approximately one hundred people are expected, including prominent figures such as Steve Wynn, the founder and president of Bigelow Aerospace, Wilbur Ross, the former U.S. Commerce Secretary, and casino billionaire.
Paulson released a statement saying, “We’ve raised over $43 million so far. The response to our fundraising efforts has been overwhelming.” “There is massive support amongst a broad spectrum of donors.”
The former president said, “This has been some incredible evening before it even starts because people – they wanted to contribute to a cause of making America great again, and that’s what’s happened,” in a brief statement to reporters as he and his wife, Melania Trump, arrived at the event.
Even though tens of millions of dollars are anticipated to be raised at the fundraiser, Trump still needs to catch up to Democratic opponent and current President Biden, who is said to have over $192 million in cash as opposed to just over $93 million for Trump.
$26 million is won in the Biden race
During a fundraising engagement with former presidents Bill and Barack Obama at New York City’s renowned Radio City Music Hall late last month, Biden’s campaign claimed to have raised more than $26 million.
A record amount of money was raised at the star-studded event, a single fundraiser that the president’s reelection campaign referred to as “historic.”
The “Inaugural Leadership Dinner,” as Trump is calling his event, is a sign of the former president’s comeback and Republican Party funding.
When Trump first started his campaign, he had trouble attracting large donors, and some of them gathered to back the other Republicans running against him in the presidential primary. Still, the GOP has firmly positioned itself behind Trump as he has amassed easy victories, leveled the playing field, and emerged as the party’s presumed nominee.
According to the invitation, money raised for the event will benefit the Trump 47 Committee, a cooperative fundraising initiative with the Republican National Committee, state Republican parties, and Save America, a political action committee that covers the majority of Trump’s legal expenses.
Large donations
Unusual for a fundraising agreement, contributions are directed to pay his campaign and Save America the maximum amount permitted by law before the RNC or state parties receive a portion.
Attendees are requested to pay $250,000 for the “host committee” or $814,600 for the “chairman” contribution, which includes a seat at Trump’s table.
A personalized copy of Trump’s coffee table book, “Our Journey Together,” which has images from his administration, plus a photo opportunity are included with each selection.
Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota, and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy are three of Trump’s previous opponents for the GOP nomination, and they are anticipated to show up as “special guests.”
