There once lived a powerful pirate on this Florida island. It is now for sale

With a pirate past, this 7-acre island in Florida’s panhandle is being listed for millions of dollars.

The island, which lies in Saint Joesph Bay off the coast of Port St. Joe, was formerly owned by “Black Sam Bellamy,” hence the fitting nickname “Black’s Island.”

Because of his generosity, Bellamy was referred to as “the Robin Hood of Pirates” and was thought to be the richest pirate in history.

According to Forbes, the captain earned an estimated $120 million during his career, earning his nickname from his preference for his own black hair over trendy powdered wigs.

Bellamy finally lost his life in a shipwreck close to what is now Cape Cod in Massachusetts, despite his good fortune.

However, according to Jon Kohler & Associates, Bellamy resided on Black’s Island from 1715 until his tragic death.

Since then, the island has been transformed into an exclusive, opulent resort with the following features:

  • 26 exclusive, one-story cottages with 360-degree views along the waterfront
  • A four-story common room within the clubhouse featuring indoor eating and gaming tables
  • A pool with sundecks – A bar-equipped cabana

After purchasing the island in 2018 and starting renovations, developer Scott Seymour has been renting out the bungalows to visitors. He even brought in turkeys, peacocks, and other animals to populate the island.

Seymour informed News 6 that the island’s buildings can withstand hurricanes as well because they survived the previous year’s Category 5 Hurricane Michael.

However, the island is currently being offered for $50 million.

Seymour clarified that he is willing to selling each bungalow separately, though. They each have a price tag of $1.5 million to $1.6 million.

The bungalows have two bedrooms, both with king-sized beds, a loft area, two bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, dining area, laundry room, and a private balcony. They are 1,225 square feet in size.

The island can only be reached by boat from the shoreline, taking about ten minutes, but not by land.

Because of this, visitors are able to park close to the Black’s Island Hotel and Marina, where parking is included in the ownership.

In addition, there are lots of chances for beach volleyball, jet skiing, kayaking, fishing, boating, and paddleboarding, according to Jon Kohler & Associates. There is also a floating water trampoline.

The island is powered by two subterranean electric lines, and the property has a 600-foot-deep well with a private sewage system. In addition, satellites are used to deliver “exceptional” internet service on the island.
