Parts of the Sunshine State may experience a stormy pattern over a few days, but the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on an area on either side of Florida for the potential of tropical or subtropical development over the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The Setup: Later this week, a cold front will move into Florida and the Southeast before stalling there. One or more areas of low pressure may occasionally form and attempt to organize into a tropical or subtropical depression or storm when decaying fronts like these stall over the Gulf waters and off the Southeast coast.

Timing and Development: According to the NHC, there will be a chance for more development this weekend, but overall, there is little chance of tropical or subtropical development at this moment. This is due to the uncertainty around the formation of any organized area of low pressure in the shaded area below. For the time being, simply stay informed about any potential shifts in this way of thinking throughout the course of the following several days.

Impacts Are Anticipated Regardless: The stalled front will contribute to the rainy pattern late this week into the weekend, and there will be a lot of showers and storms in and around Florida and the Southeast this week. With storms hanging over much of the state and intermittent showers, the beach forecast for this holiday weekend is spotty.

From Wednesday through Sunday, multi-inch rainfall totals are possible in areas ranging from the Big Bend to the Tampa Bay area.

This implies that many beach outings, Fourth of July cookouts, and other outdoor events in this area would require a backup plan.

Check back frequently for forecast updates as we continue to monitor this potential development region, since many people will be coming to the beach for the Fourth of July weekend.
