The NFL community is roughly two weeks removed from the 2021 Draft, and team signings/rumors have spiked exponentially since then.

One of Florida’s three professional football teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars, arguably the ugly duckling of the group, has garnered a significant amount of attention despite being one of the worst teams in the league thanks to their number one overall selection; in the draft and a new rumored signing…

Just when football fans thought the craze of the draft and free-agent signings were on the tail end, they were thrown for a loop when a group of respected and credible NFL reporters revealed the Jaguars were in the process of signing one of the all-time great college quarterbacks in history—Tim Tebow.

Tebow, the legendary quarterback from the University of Florida, has not played a snap on the field in over 8 years after a short career spread amongst four teams, including the Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, and New England Patriots.

While no deal has been made just yet, the two sides are reportedly very close to reaching terms on a one-year deal that would transform the former quarterback to tight end, a position he is very familiar with.

The move comes as a shock to the community, given the draft situation in Jacksonville. Why would the Jaguars sign a former star quarterback when the position is not even available? The answer to that is—Urban Meyer.

Urban Meyer was the head coach at the University of Florida during Tim Tebow’s collegiate dominance and ran off into the sunset with national titles in 2006 and 2008 before the two went their separate ways.

Fast forward 13 years and the duo has been reunited in the Sunshine State yet again, only this time, Tebow is expected to play tight end. How will that work with Lawrence at the helm?

The number one overall selection was used to take the consensus pick of Trevor Lawrence from Clemson University to take over as quarterback of the struggling squad that managed to post its worst season in team history last year with a 1-15 record.

Lawrence has been widely revered as one of the best, if not the best, rookie quarterback prospects in league history. And with that pressure comes a lot of responsibility; responsibility he must share with Jaguars new head coach Urban Meyer.

Now that the top rookie prospect and former college head coach have joined forces in Florida, the bar has been set tremendously high for the pair coming into the season. But will it be overshadowed by the potential signing of the Florida sports legend?

Whether or not the move was made for a unique offensive scheme, guidance for the rookie, a coach/plyer reunion, or options at the position, the move will certainly generate more buzz for the team, something it has lacked since they made the AFC championship just 6 years ago.
