For the first time in eight years, Alabama dropped out of the top 10 in the Associated Press college football poll, and Georgia maintained its top spot on Sunday.
In the AP Top 25, Georgia received 57 first-place votes. With two first-place votes, Michigan managed to stay at No. 2. No. 3 Texas and No. 4 Florida State switched positions. The Seminoles only received one first-place vote, while the Longhorns received three.
After barely defeating USF on Saturday, Alabama (2-1) had its string of consecutive appearances in the top 10 of the AP poll come to an end at 128. This streak was the second-longest in the poll’s history, after only Miami’s 137-year run from 1985 to 1993.
For the first time since September 27, 2015, the Crimson Tide are not in the top 10. After losing to Mississippi in September, the Tide fell out of the top 10, but on October 3 they returned and went on to win the national championship.
At 37, Georgia has the longest current streak of top-10 rankings.
Alabama’s dreadful 17-3 victory over USF was the team’s first contest against a non-Power Five league foe without at least 20 points since 2007. Alabama has a 42-game winning streak against non-Power Five opponents and an average victory margin of 40 points.
No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Washington, No. 9 Notre Dame, and No. 10 Oregon made up the remaining top 10.
Next Saturday’s game between the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish will serve as the culmination of a busy sequence of ranked versus. rated contests.
No. 25 After defeating Tennessee, Florida returned for the first time since September 24 of the previous campaign.
Billy Napier, the coach of Florida, remarked following the game, “It supports your approach, what you’re selling to a degree. As a leader, you want to achieve that. That’s a lot more enjoyable.
Florida State, Miami, and the Gators are all ranked for the first time since September 17, 2017, thanks to the Gators’ return to the Top 25.
