Online footage of police officers hitting spectators during Saturday’s Florida-Georgia game at EverBank Stadium is being examined by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, she has discussed the altercations during the rivalry game, which is dubbed “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party,” with Sheriff T.K. Waters.
Deegan wrote, “I’m aware of several disturbing videos circulating from [Saturday’s] game,” on X on Sunday. “We are awaiting the outcome of that investigation.”
On Sunday, the sheriff’s office stated that it would not comment until its assessment was over.
“The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s Professional Standards Division is aware of the videos circulating from the Georgia-Florida football game. Administrative reviews of the incidents are being opened. As such, the agency will not comment until all facts are known and the reviews have been completed,” the office said.
Two officers are seen fighting with two onlookers in one video. Fans in the area could be heard yelling for the cops to stop.
In a second video, a man and two JSO officers argue, turn into a brawl, and the man is detained and has his face bloodied after being repeatedly shot with a stun gun.
The events leading up to the altercations were not depicted in either video.
