TAMPA, Fla. – Due to purported streaming problems during the bout between former YouTuber Jake Paul and famed fighter Mike Tyson, a class action complaint was filed against Netflix in Hillsborough County on Monday.
Ronald “Blue” Denton, a resident of Hillsborough County, filed the complaint, alleging that Netflix had violated the terms of the agreement and engaged in unfair and deceptive practices when viewers were presented with a “unwatchable” live feed during Friday’s event.
The fight between YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul and “Iron” Mike Tyson, “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” excited 60 million Americans. According to the lawsuit, they witnessed “The Baddest Streaming on the Planet.”
The lawsuit claimed that “boxing fans, along with the average Americans wanting to see a legend in what would most likely be his last fight, were faced with legendary problems, including: no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues,” citing “over 100,000 people complaining online.”
Paul co-owns Most Valuable Promotions, a fight promoter, claims that 60 million people watched the main event on Netflix. The lawsuit claimed that spectators “did not get what they bargained for as they missed large portions of the fight(s), if not the fight altogether,” despite the fact that both Netflix and the promoter hailed the streamed event as a success.
Netflix was contacted by WFLA for comment, but they did not respond right away. In a statement provided to NBC Chicago on Friday, the streaming behemoth stated that it has “nothing to comment on at this time.”
