The demand for COVID-19 tests that may be done at home is becoming more and more overwhelming for many well-known pharmacies.

Andy Kimmel, the owner of Greenwood Pharmacy in Lake Mary, is able to keep these vital tests in stock. Greenwood Pharmacy orders and receives merchandise every day, as opposed to larger chains that receive shipments once a week.

They receive their product once a week and store it, so it might not be available when someone needs it. Every day, we place our orders and get our goods. Thus, it differs—daily as opposed to once a week,” Kimmel remarked.

There were 662 cases reported in Seminole County alone in June as opposed to 271 in May. The need for COVID-19 at-home tests has increased as a result of the rise in cases.

“Flu season increases, beginning in the fall. Sales have increased ever since the president received COVID. I try to maintain enough in stock, but there’s no exact formula,” Kimmel remarked.

Being a locally owned business, Greenwood Pharmacy is able to customize its offerings to match the unique requirements of its clients.

“If a patient visits a chain pharmacy, such as CVS or Walgreens, and is unable to locate their prescription, they will discover that the costs at such locations are fixed by corporate and cannot be altered. We provide pharmaceuticals at a cheaper cost than most others because we have the ability to examine the cost, evaluate what it is, and make changes,” Kimmel added.

Kimmel continued, “Given the high demand, it’s critical to have at-home tests available.”

“We typically go above and above. That is the function of a stand-alone, family-run pharmacy. We provide our patients with these treatments that they are unable to obtain elsewhere or are unable to obtain elsewhere,” Kimmel added.

Physicians advise patients who feel ill to stay at home, cover up, and be checked out.

The main way that the virus spreads between people is by droplets that are released when infected individuals cough, sneeze, or talk.
