In reaction to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris declared on Sunday that she would be delaying her trip to South Florida on Tuesday.

Harris had previously scheduled a trip to Palm Beach for July 16 in order to participate in a moderated discussion about Trump’s views on reproductive rights with Republican women.

A statement from her office revealed that she was scheduled to make the case to Republican and independent women that the Biden administration is “the only choice they can trust to protect their freedom to make one’s own health care decisions,” just hours before former President Trump took the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Following gunfire at the outdoor campaign rally on Saturday night, Trump was hastily removed from the stage while bleeding from his right ear. About 400 feet from the stage, on the roof of a shed outside the gated rally area, the gunman—later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks—started firing with a semiautomatic AR-style weapon, according to numerous individuals who spoke with CBS News.

Officials reported that Crooks was shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper.

Law police still didn’t have a motive for the crime as of Monday morning. According to an FBI official, the gunman’s family is assisting the investigation.

Officials from the Biden team stated that Harris’ plans will change in light of the circumstances in Pennsylvania.

“In light of the horrific shooting in Pennsylvania, the Vice President’s planned campaign trip to Florida has been postponed,” the statement continued.

Harris would have traveled to Florida on her 13th visit since assuming office, and her third this year.
