TAMPA, FL. – Without the assistance of the federal government, the Florida Highway Patrol can now carry out operations and make arrests of illegal immigrants.

That statement was made by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday morning at a press conference in Tampa.

What they’re saying: “We had over 100 FHP troopers sworn in as special deputy U.S. Marshals earlier this week, which is more than the 287G.” According to DeSantis, it gives state troopers the authority to carry out federal warrants and expel dangerous criminal aliens from our neighborhoods.

State troopers can now take all action necessary to deport the illegal immigrant, DeSantis continued.

“Knowledge can be applied to different situations like illegal immigration,” the governor stated, citing the logistics involved in disaster response, such as those that occur during storms.

The next step, he added, is to have military judge advocates serve as immigration judges, provide transportation, and set up temporary detention facilities provided the idea is authorized by the federal government.

“Honestly, it’s probably easier to fly someone to South America than it is to Martha’s Vineyard,” remarked DeSantis. For us, this might be disastrous. We wish to participate in the battle. We wish to assist.

DeSantis said that his scheme would be a significant force multiplier if it were put into action and authorized by the federal government.

Dave Kerner, executive director of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and Larry Keefe, executive director of the Florida State Board of Immigration Enforcement, joined the governor at the press conference.
