The University of Miami, a cornerstone of higher education in South Florida, has officially reached a historic milestone.

On Tuesday, the university celebrated its 100th anniversary, marking a century of academic achievement, innovation, and influence within the community.

Established in 1925, the University of Miami was founded in tandem with the development of Coral Gables. At the time, city officials believed that a thriving city required a prominent university at its core.

What began with just two schools has since expanded to 12 colleges and schools, including renowned programs in law, medicine, and marine and atmospheric sciences.

Today, UM is home to over 19,000 students and has earned national recognition for producing accomplished graduates across numerous fields.

The university’s alumni include notable figures such as international music sensation Gloria Estefan and actor and former professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

To commemorate its centennial, UM hosted a vibrant celebration featuring live music, complimentary food, a campus-wide block party, and a dazzling fireworks display.
