Many people’s plans were derailed by the inclement weather in South Florida, which affected everything from transport to entertainment.

For those hoping to attend a pleasant outdoor event such as The Berry Farms’ Winter Festival, Santa’s Enchanted Forest, or Christmas Wonderland, the weekend was a wash.

Although a lot of flights and cruises went off without a hitch, Miami International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and even PortMiami had delays and cancellations due to the rainy weather.

The following summarizes how the weather affected Miami-Dade and Broward’s events and travel schedules:

Flights and airports

This weekend, there were delays and cancellations at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport, partially due to the weather.

At MIA on Saturday, there were 582 delayed flights but only one canceled. 383 were delayed and 1 was canceled at FLL.

Three flights had been canceled and 381 flights had been delayed at MIA as of Sunday night. Contrast that with the 4 canceled and 357 delayed flights at FLL.

Keep in mind that not every one of these flights had a weather-related delay or cancellation. The precise number of impacted flights that were directly brought on by the weather is unknown.

PortMiami

Due to the recent storms, PortMiami notified on Sunday that there will be a delay in embarkation.

A social media statement from PortMiami states that you should get instructions and additional information by getting in touch with your cruise line.

Christmas Wonderland and Santa’s Enchanted Forest

Christmas is back in full swing now that Santa’s Enchanted Forest and Christmas Wonderland have reopened and the weather isn’t as gloomy.

Both attractions were reopened on Sunday, December 17 at 5 p.m. after being closed on Saturday.

Additionally, Christmas Wonderland revealed that they will open on Monday, December 18, and that Miami-Dade County residents will receive a special $29 discount.

Winterfest Boat Parade

Due to abnormally high temperatures, the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade, which was supposed to take place on Saturday, December 16, had to be canceled.

The strong winds created dangerous boating conditions, as advised and directed by the US Coast Guard and other pertinent agencies.

A statement from the event’s website states, “We place the utmost importance on the safety and well-being of our participants and spectators.” “The inclement weather conditions, beyond our control, make it impossible to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.”

The RINK at The Loop

Because of the bad weather, The Loop skating rink in Fort Lauderdale Beach was closed for the weekend.

“Who knew Mother Nature could be such a Grinch?” asks The Loop on their Instagram page.

The post stated that on Friday, December 15, and Saturday, December 16, the RINK will be closed.

The RINK would reopen, according to an earlier statement that was published on Sunday. However, the post was later changed to indicate that they would be closing again because of rink damage.

The most recent information is that the RINK at The Loop will reopen on Monday at 3 p.m.

Winter Festival at Berry Farms

The Berry Farms restarted its Winter Festival on Sunday after closing on Saturday.

The Berry Farms also announced extended hours till 10 pm in a post on their Instagram.
