The Ram truck brand has had quite the run over the last few years, and it seems like it has no intention of slowing down.
Recently the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released its choices for Top Safety Pick designation, and the 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab received the top honors thanks to Ram Truck’s Advanced Safety Group. The achievement marks the first time in the award’s history that a pickup truck earned the nod for Top Safety Pick in back-to-back years (2020 and 2021) from the IIHS.
“A Top Safety Pick for the Ram 1500 solidifies our long-standing commitment to our customers through advanced technology and engineering expertise,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “This validation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety builds consumer confidence in our trucks and in the Ram brand.”
To qualify for an IIHS safety award, all vehicles must be equipped with Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking. In Ram’s case, their version of the Automatic Emergency Braking system is rated “advanced.”
The truck maker’s sensor-fusion technology utilizes a connection between cameras and radar sensors to determine potential front impact collisions. If the vehicle senses no feedback from the driver, the system automatically engages the vehicle’s brakes to help mitigate potential impact and damage.
Ram’s Advanced Safety Group package doesn’t stop with just the necessary emergency braking system; it also offers drivers Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Go, and Hold, Blind Spot Monitoring with trailer coverage, and Rear Cross Path Detection.
During the testing, the Automatic Emergency Braking feature earned the highest possible rating, “superior,” and comes standard on the Laramie, Longhorn, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and Rebel trims. Bighorn and Tradesman trims also include the safety feature with Level 1 Equipment Group packages.
The Ram 1500 Crew Cab also earned the highest possible rating on each of the six crashworthiness tests conducted by the IIHS—three front collision tests, rear, side, and rollover impact damage.
Ram 1500
The 2020 Ram 1500 set benchmarks for efficiency, technology, durability, and convenience, features never-before-seen in a pickup, and is widely considered a leading vehicle in its class. The Ram 1500 offers drivers up to 12,750 pounds of towing capability and 2,300 pounds of payload. It also helps that the Ram 1500 provides exceptional fuel ratings and offers an eTorque mild hybrid system that boosts fuel figures when coupled with the standard V6 engine or the optional HEMI V8 engine.
For 2021, the Ram 1500 has done it again by becoming America’s most powerful half-ton pickup thanks to its 480 lb-ft of torque and the most capable light-duty diesel pickup pulling a towing capability of 12,560 pounds.
