Stellantis revealed in 2022 the location of the manufacturing plant responsible for creating its new STLA platform series. According to the auto group’s Dare Forward 2030 business plan, a major objective of releasing 75 new battery-electric vehicles by 2030, Stellantis also needs to begin developing new BEV platforms to accommodate the various vehicle categories and sizes. With STLA SmartCockpit, these new platforms—which go by the name STLA Platforms—have exhibited some intriguing concepts for the platform and inside. There are currently four: Small, Medium, Large, and Frame. Stellantis now presents the STLA Large platform in 2024.

“Although our objectives for our STLA platforms are lofty, this is what our clients require from us right now assembling a family of automobiles from a carefully designed collection of parts that may accommodate a variety of vehicle designs and motor systems…This platform’s defining feature is its adaptability and agility, which will be essential to our success as we transition North America to electrification. – Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis

Formerly, the STLA Medium platform—which was unveiled in 2023—was thought to serve as the foundation for a future Dodge eMuscle car. has the fastest charging speed and energy efficiency in its class; it can charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 27 minutes. According to reports, this platform is adaptable enough to function in the C and D vehicle categories, offering a wide range of vehicle types that the Medium platform might be utilized for. D-segment vehicles are large passenger cars and mid-size vehicles, occasionally coupes and hatchbacks, whereas C-segment vehicles are usually tiny passenger cars and compact cars.

Of course, the D- and E-vehicle segments will make the most use of the STLA Large platform. E-segment vehicles, which might be sedans or hatchbacks, are often high-end vehicles. The STLA Platform series offers an alternative fuel source, in this case electricity, and is intended to accommodate a wide range of vehicle types, including sedans, crossovers, and SUVs. High-performance BEVs are made possible by the platform, which is made of high-strength materials and has been tuned for weight and rigidity. The measurements as of right now are 187.6–201.8 inches long, 74.7–79.9 inches wide, and 113.0–121.1 inches in wheelbase. With 5.5 to 11.3 inches of ground clearance, it is designed to handle some off-roading.

The electric drive modules (EDMs) that are available can be configured for front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive layouts, increasing the platform’s versatility for a wider range of automobiles. These EDMs are designed to handle 400-volt and 800-volt electric designs. It is said that the STLA Large platform will have power comparable to if not more than, that of the current Hellcat V8 engines. Energy ratings of 85 to 118 kilowatt hours (kWh), a 0-62 mph acceleration time of roughly two seconds, and a 500-mile driving range are what we’re looking at.

Stellantis has eight vehicles scheduled for introduction between 2024 and 2026, with plans to first produce the STLA Large platform in the North American market on Dodge and Jeep® brands, followed by additional brands including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and Maserati. A closer look at the release dates of the new Stellantis BEVs will come once eMuscle gets ready and Jeep announces the Wagoneer S all-electric vehicle. Want to learn more?
