The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is back after a three-decade snooze. New and improved, its design has turned Jeep’s Trojan Horse into a luxury vehicle. The Grand Wagoneer now competes against the likes of the Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, and GMC Yukon Denali. Powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8, the Grand Wagoneer rides on a ladder frame chassis with an independent suspension. Jeep’s Quadra-Drive II four-wheel-drive system, along with the Quadra-lift Air Suspension, make for amazing handling and a very smooth ride.
Depending on the configuration, the Grand Wagoneer offers seating for seven to eight passengers and has a commanding presence with a pleasant outward view. The four different trim levels include the Series I, Series II, Series II, and Obsidian. The latter is a special appearance trim that comes with a black-out trim, standard black exterior accents, and inserts on the standard 22-inch wheels. Aluminum, wood, and even onyx glass take the Grand Wagoneer to a new level. Both driver and front passenger seats come with 20-way power-adjustable massage, 4-way power headrests, and memory. Other features include adjustable pedals, a heated steering wheel, and a memory steering column.
Jeep even added surprising touches throughout the cabin, including an optional locking touchpad-controlled safe that lies underneath the armrest on Series I Grand Wagoneer vehicles. On high-tier trims, such as the Obsidian and Seris II, buyers can opt for an available storage/cooler bin. This option is standard across the top-tier Series II trim of the Grand Wagoneer. There is also an enormous 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a total of up to six touchscreen displays in one cabin. These touchscreens include a 12-inch infotainment display screen, the passenger’s optional (and exclusive) Fire TV screen, and a 10.25-inch control screen that handles seat heating and climate.
With the available Grand Wagoneer Fire TV option, the 10.25-inch touchscreen lies directly in front of the passenger seat and away from the driver’s view. Passengers are able to watch videos or monitor the interior of the cabin thanks to a 360-degree overhead camera. A special filter over the screen prevents the driver from being able to see the screen itself.
The new Grand Wagoneer comes equipped with the company’s groundbreaking Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Jeep also added a 23-speaker McIntosh sound system that brings forth premium audio via 23 speakers. Customers can enjoy up to 11 USB ports, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability and onboard Wi-Fi that supports up to eight devices at once, and Bluetooth for two devices.
