How does an NFL team win the Super Bowl? The Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars are all asking themselves that same question. However, the recipe for success can be difficult to conjure up. The crop of quarterbacks that play today that have won a Super Bowl championship is a small group. The Florida professional football teams do not have one. (Jacksonville just lost their starting quarterback and former Super Bowl champion in Nick Foles to a shoulder injury that might sideline him for the season, if not his career). The Jaguars are left with a rookie starting! The Tampa Bay Bucs are still wondering if their first overall pick Jameis Winston is the real deal. And the Miami Dolphins have traded away almost all their most valuable players and assets to gain more future draft picks. In fact, the 2018 first-round pick by the Dolphins, Minkak Fitzpatrick has asked to be traded, hoping to abandon the Dolphins tanking process and go to another team.
To Tank Or Not?
The Dolphins are all-in on their method to lose as many games as possible to have the best options from the college football landscape to rebuild this team entirely. The Dolphins already have the youngest team in the NFL, but they are about to get even younger with the upcoming draft and off-season. We’re only halfway through the second week of the season, but the writing is on the wall for the Miami Dolphins. The reason for the tanking? The Dolphins know to win in this league, a top-flight quarterback is needed. While the Tampa Bay Bucs are struggling with their top pick from just five years ago, the Dolphins have to make the right choice when they expectedly pick at number one. The only threat to Miami’s hopes of picking the first overall selection (and most likely the top-ranked quarterback) is the New York Jets. The curse of Adam Gase has followed over to the Jets, after leaving Miami, Adam Gase has set the Jets back with questionable coaching, general manager decisions and they might start the season with two months passing before a gaining a single win.
Why Is the Quarterback So Important?
So, how sure are the Dolphins that all they need is a top quarterback? Just look at the group of current players that have won a Super Bowl. There truly are not many; Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Ben Rothisleberger, Eli Manning, Nick Foles, Joe Flacco and Russel Wilson. None of them are younger than thirty years old. Think about that! It takes the smart play and elite skills of a quarterback to inspire a team to victory. Check with us for more sports talk at Florida Insider.
