Nowadays, cars resemble computers more than machinery, and vice versa. Infotainment systems are no longer a huge deal; instead, installing an operating system in a car and linking it to online retailers is becoming more and more typical. Automotive companies like Stellantis have implemented an Android OS in their Uconnect 5 infotainment system, which gives new cars access to a library of apps, in an effort to improve the customer experience. Take a look at the brand-new Uconnect 5 technologies that are already in cars from the 2024 model year.
Using Uconnect 5 to Connect
Customers can access new Dodge Connect, Alfa Connect, and Jeep Connect linked services, respectively, in the 2024 Dodge Hornet, Alfa Romeo Tonale, and Jeep® Wrangler. Consumers receive a Vehicle Performance Package for five years, entitling them to vehicle health reports and alerts as well as over-the-air (OTA) software updates when more capabilities become available, upgrading safety, security, and convenience for the modern consumer. Stellantis has been researching Emergency Vehicle Alert System (EVAS) notifications for the past year in order to give customers automated SOS signals, vehicle theft alerts, roadside help, one-touch access to customer service, as well as notification of impending dangerous road conditions.
A 3GB/three-month 4G Wi-Fi hotspot trial with Alexa built-in is included in many new model year vehicles thanks to a partnership with Amazon. Alexa can be used to play music, ask for directions, and carry out many other smart speaker activities. The Assistance and Navigation Packages are available for a free three-month trial on the 2024 Dodge Hornet and Jeep Wrangler. These give customers access to driver alerts, OTA map updates, connected traffic and travel services, remote vehicle operations, and more. Customers will be able to alter the look and feel of their infotainment systems via the Dodge, Alfa, and Jeep Connect applications, which are comparable to the aforementioned ones.
GPS Trail Logs and Adventure Guides
The new Jeep Connect Off Road Pages+ Package will arrive in the 2024 Wagoneer, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Grand Cherokee to help Jeep owners find more adventure. Jeep owners now have access to more than 200 off-road trail guides, including all Jeep Badge of Honor Trails, making trip planning much simpler. This is made possible by the newly released Jeep Adventure Guides. Jeep owners who purchase an Adventure Guide All-Access Membership have access to the whole library of more than 3,000 trails, which is initially accessible for a two-year trial. Additionally offered are a fully functional GPS that works even without Wi-Fi and the capability to download maps that provide information such as difficulty rankings, waypoint locations, and photographs to aid with navigation even in areas with spotty cellular connection.
Additionally added as a new feature are GPS Trail Logs. Jeep owners can use this to mark waypoints directly on the touchscreen, including obstacles, directions, and interesting locations. Off-road activities can also be recorded, creating a wealth of priceless memories. Through the Jeep smartphone app, more details can be added to these recordings once the ride is over.
The 2024 models aren’t the only ones who get to use this new OS because of OTA upgrades. The Alexa Built-In experience and other features will be available to all 2022-2024 model year vehicles fitted with Uconnect 5 NAV in the second half of 2023.
